Socialist Alternative is the Canadian section of the Committee for a Workers' International (CWI).
Formerly known as Labour Militant and then Socialist Resistance, we have been organized in Canada for over 15 years.
Campaigns
We campaign in the interests of the working class, youth, women, the poor and homeless, and oppressed minorities.
We have regular meetings in Toronto and Kingston and have members and sympathizers throughout Canada. Our members are involved in the trade union, student and anti-poverty movements. We publish a quarterly magazine, 'The Socialist' which provides a Marxist analysis of events in Canada and around the world.
New workers party
Socialist Alternative also provides a class alternative in the electoral field. Our candidates stood in Toronto city elections in 1997 and 2000, scoring 8% of the total vote and 20%-25% in working class areas and in 2000, in Kingston securing 12.5% of the vote.
We call for the building of a new mass workers' party that can provide an alternative to the big business parties, including the NDP.
