Following the biggest strike in generations in Scotland,
Northern Ireland, Wales
and England last week, Paul Murphy MEP spoke in support of the
Strike and against the conservative Tory government’s characterisation
of the strike as a “damp squib” in the European Parliament.
This strike represented a massive step forward for the working class in
Britain and Northern Ireland in their fight against the vicious
austerity agenda of the government, as over 2 million public sector
workers came out. It brought the working class in Northern Ireland and
Britain into line with workers in many other countries across Europe
where general strikes have become features of the burgeoning fight back
against the attempt to make the working class pay for the bad gambling
debts of the big bankers, bond holders and speculators.
