Below we publish a joint declaration agreed between the CWI and Izquierda Revolucionaria (Revolutionary Left - a Marxist organisation with prescence in the Spanish state, Mexico and Venezuela. Also known by the name of their newspaper, El Militante).
BETWEEN 20th and 22nd of September comrades representing both organisations met in London for extensive discussions on the international situation and developments in Spain and Britain. In addition to these extremely productive discussions an extensive meeting was held with leading members of the Socialist Party (CWI in England and Wales). In addition to the discussions on perspectives and analysis, the tasks facing the working class and tasks and tactics needed to build combative socialist organisations nationally and internationally were also fully debated. There was also a full discussion on the history of each national and international organisation.
During these discussions it was clear that there are very strong areas of agreement between both organisations on all of these issues. We think that there is sufficient agreement to enthusiastically engage in a process of further discussions and collaboration between both organisations. It is also necessary for the membership and leadership of each organisation to become fully acquainted with each other.
The degree of agreement which exists between both our organisations means there is sufficient basis to proceed to work towards a wider and deeper collaboration on a principled political basis. This does not mean agreement on every detail or issue but on the main political analysis, methods and tasks necessary for the working class and combative socialists nationally and internationally.
These discussions have been extremely positive and represent a very important step forward for both organisations. To further this process a series of exchanges, visits and interchange of material was agreed, to be organised in the coming months.
