"Workers at the steel factory, Caterpillar, in Gosselies (near Charleroi) put down tools in protest against the war with Iraq", reports Belgian news agencies.

Caterpillar factory strikes against the war

"The strike began at 5.45am on 24 March. A general assembly later today will decide if the strike continues. The workers have decided to distribute leaflets against the war, stopping cars at the main roads in the area.

"Police in Brussels arrested 30 people on Sunday. They were part of a 70 strong protest at the American Embassy. Also on Saturday there was police interference after a peace demo supported by 15,000 to 30,000 people."
