Unions respond to new austerity measures

In response to the new raft of austerity measures announced by the Spanish Zapatero government (which include a 5% across the board public sector pay cut and the abolition of a form of child benefit), the country’s two main unions (UGT, CC.OO) will organise a general strike of the public sector on 2 June, in what marks a new phase in the country’s devastating crisis and developing workers’ fight back.
