On Saturday 12th of September, Militant Left (CWI Ireland) joined tens of thousands of people in Dublin city centre to tell President Donald Trump he was not wanted in Ireland.
The latest in a long line of odious imperialist leaders of the US was welcomed to Ireland by President Catherine Connolly and Taoiseach Michéal Martin during his visit to attend the Irish Open Golf Tournament at the Trump hotel in Doonbeg. A trip that cost hard working US workers millions of tax dollars during an unprecedented cost of living crisis exasperated by Trump’s capricious economic, and foreign policies.
The march was co-ordinated by the Irish Neutrality League to protest the Government’s appeasement of Trump in the midst of the ongoing war with Iran and his enabling of Israel’s genocidal war against Palestine [the Republic of Ireland is formally a ‘neutral country’ but sections of the pro Establishment parties are attempting to move towards membership of NATO, which is opposed by the majority of Irish people – Ed]. And while a wide range of political and community organisations took part in the protest, the vast majority of those attending were members of the public, including quite a number of US citizens, who joined the march as it made its way from the Garden of Remembrance to the Dail [Irish parliament building].
While many of those marching hoped to see the Trump administration weakened in the forthcoming Mid-Term elections, Militant Left has no illusions in the lesser-evilism expounded by those who hope an election victory by the Democrats in November or further ahead in the 2028 Presidential Elections, would make any real difference for the working class in the US or globally.
The naked misogynistic, racist, right-populist, and quasi-Authoritarian nature of the Trump administration has exposed the true face of US imperialism, which previous administrations, Republican and Democrat, had hoped to mask with a veneer of diplomacy and civility (after all those bombed and killed by the more charming Biden regime are no less dead than those killed by Trump’s), much to the chagrin of the US ruling class who are now looking beyond Trump for a successor more capable of managing US capitalism.
Militant Left stands with the working class people of America, and our US co-thinkers in the Independent Socialist Group, against Trump and the capitalist ruling class destroying the lives of millions worldwide.
