A total of 177 Bangladeshi migrant workers at the Mediceram factory in Negeri Sembilan were summarily dismissed and forcibly sent home after they launched a strike demanding unpaid wages, the promised reimbursement of recruitment fees, and the return of their personal documents which had also been confiscated.
The employer’s retaliation involved threats, forced deportation, and continued intimidation until today. This case exposes the harsh reality of the exploitation of migrant workers in Malaysia — from debt bondage, passport confiscation, to violations of the most basic human rights.
