Socialistworld.net has received the following urgent solidary appeal from worker activists in Iran. We ask our readers to urgently raise the case of Sharifeh Mohammadi at union branches and other labour movement meetings.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In mid-August, the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran once again confirmed the death sentence against Sharifeh Mohammadi, a long-time labour activist. Her life is now in immediate danger.
Sharifeh Mohammadi is a committed Iranian activist who has long been engaged in the struggle for workers’ and women’s rights. In July 2024, after a 30-minute trial in the previous month, she was sentenced to death by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Court on charges of “armed rebellion” and “propaganda against the state.” The authorities accused her of alleged ties to banned groups, particularly Komala, the Kurdistan Organization of the Communist Party of Iran.
Mohammadi has firmly denied these accusations. Her legal team emphasised that her work with workers’ organisations, including the ‘Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organisations,’ was entirely lawful under international standards.
These charges are widely seen as politically motivated — a means to suppress independent labour organising and silence critical voices. The regime is clearly unpopular, as shown in low turnouts in elections, and has faced both protests like the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement in 2022/3 and, especially since 2017, several workers’ protests and strikes.
In October 2024, Iran’s Supreme Court overturned Mohammadi’s death sentence and granted her a retrial. However, despite national and international pressure, the retrial in December 2024 found her guilty and in February 2025 the death sentence was reinstated. Now the Supreme Court has confirmed that decision — a dangerous signal not only for Mohammadi but for all political dissidents in Iran as the regime seeks to especially repress both protests and independent organising.
Sharifeh Mohammadi, a mother with a 14 year old son, and many others urgently need your solidarity and support. Public statements, political pressure, support for campaigns, and media engagement can all help save her life and bring global attention to the Iranian regime’s repression of activists. Every action counts.
- Demand the lifting of death sentences on Sharifeh Mohammadi and other Iranian oppositionists
- Free political and labour activist prisoners
- For the right to freely organise trade unions and other bodies
Protests by all workers organisations, including factory organisations and local union branches, regional bodies and national trade unions can have an impact.
