Twice as many as last year protest lack of democracy and gross inequality in society
Today, Sunday 1 July, more than 400,000 people flooded the streets of Hong Kong demanding genuine democracy. It is 15 years since Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule and also the first day in office for the new Chief Executive, Leung Chun-ying, or “C.Y." The number of people turning out on the demonstration is double that of last year, indicating a growing level of discontent with the existing situation.
