Sunday, September 28, the Seattle Chapter of ANSWER, the US anti-war umbrella organisation, held a protest against the US occupation of Iraq.
Around 100 people came out to the protest. Members of Socialist Alternative (CWI in the US) attended and handed out leaflets, sold our socialist newspaper, literature, and t-shirts. We attributed the small size of the event to the weakness of ANSWER’s in Seattle and also because on the following Sunday (October 5), there is going to be another protest against the occupation. The October 5 demo is being organised by ‘Not In Our Name’, which has a much larger activist base in Seattle. Socialist Alternative is also campaigning to build this anti-occupation protest.
