France: 56% vote no in the referendum on the EU constitution

The European Union and the French economic, financial and political establishment plunged into crisis as France voted last night against the proposed EU constitution. spoke to Alex Rouillard, leading member of Gauche révolutionnaire, the cwi in France this morning:

“The result confirms what we have said all along. This was a vote on class lines against the neo-liberalism of the EU and the French government. A majority of those on wages of less than 3.000 euro a month voted against the constitution, amongst the lowest paid workers (less than 1500 euro a month) the no vote was on average 66%”.

Expectations are that Raffarin, the French prime minister, will resign later today or tomorrow. will publish a full article on the developments in France later today.
